Whether you have one or several missing teeth, both dental bridges and dental implants can be an excellent solution. Dr. David M. Gordon, your Vallejo dentist, offers a beautifully restored smile you'll be proud to show off. Which one is right for you? Consider the benefits of both.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

Dental bridges replace missing teeth, just like dental implants. The difference, however, is how they are attached. Dental bridges are attached to the teeth on either side of a gap, creating a 'bridge' that holds your replacement tooth in place.

Dental bridges are very strong and generally more affordable than dental implants. They do, however, carry a slightly increased risk for gum disease and decay if they are not taken care of properly. While they do not require the titanium screw, they do require the two supporting teeth to be filed down slightly to accept the bridge.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants consist of two parts: a tooth-colored crown at the top and a titanium screw at the bottom. Once the dental implant is screwed into the jaw bone, the result is a structure that looks, feels and functions just like a normal tooth. Dental implants are very sturdy, and they are an excellent option for replacing one or more missing teeth. As little as four screws can hold up to an entire set of new teeth in place.

While some people shy away from implants because they involve more in-depth work, implants offer numerous benefits. There is no need to file down the surrounding teeth to support the replacement, for instance, and implants can help to stabilize the jaw by mimicking your now missing tooth root.

Whether you choose dental bridges or dental implants from Vallejo dentist Dr. David M. Gordon, one thing is certain: you will gain a beautiful and fully functional smile you will be proud to show off.
